Report prepared for the Foreign Economic Administration by a member of the staff of the United States Tariff Commission. This study focuses on the Fats, Oils, and Oil-Bearing Materials industry in Japan's economy. Entered as Defense Document 500-A-15. Handwritten note states "Reproduce all. Smith." Gives import and export totals pre-war, describing how only 60% of Japan's need was supplied by domestic production with the remainder being supplemented by imports from its Empire and other areas in Asia. Its main source for domestic oil supplies came from fish. Analyzes necessary domestic production in order for the population needs to be met in the post-war era. Concludes "should Japan be allowed to export some fats or oils or increase its consumption, then imports would have to be increased accordingly."
