Assistant professor at KIU 1926-1934; assistant professor Nagasaki Medical School 1934-1936, during which time he studied in England, France, and Germany. A few months after return became a full professor at KIU, remained until July 1946, then into private practice, because of low salary. Drafted in army as medical Officer April 1944, 10 days with 46th Inf. at Fukuoka, 15 days at Kokura Military Hospital., then returned to KIU in May 1944 from rank of Sgt. to that of civilian. Umayahara was engaged in treatment of cancer of uterus by X-ray during war, not connected with the military. Professor Enjoji of the Pediatric Department and Professor Sawada of the Internal Disease Section his closest friends, knew Ishiyama very well, has been a slight acquaintance of Dr. Taku Komori since 1921, last seen in June 1945 at a party held because Umayahara had performed an operation on the wife of the head of the WAMS. Komori was stationed at the Kaikosha Hospital; knew Umayahara and chief of WAMS, brought Horiuchi's wife to Umayahara to be operated upon. This party lasted about 3 hours at the Kikuume restaurant, Fukuoka City. Umayahara heard in April or May 1946 that Ishiyama operated on PWs in the Autopsy room. Nothing more. |
