S/D - ATIS Translation - 37 September 1946 On 26 September 1946 Defendant excavated from 1330 to 1530 with 4 men and 3 women at Hirao, dug up again and reexamined the spot excavated 24 September and the surrounding ground. Dug up were a part of a rubber shoe of the type worn aboard ship, which it was surmised had been used by an American air crew member, the burned remnant of a document and the remains of a fountain pen which looked as if it had been burnt. No personal belongings were found. Defendant then gives the statement of Tokuta KONDO, taken 26 September, in whichhe states that he tossed approximately 30 silver coins of the airman’s belongings into the sea, that all documents dated 1944 or earlier were burned at the old Army Headquarters and those dated 1945 were burned at Hirao. Osamu SATANO, thot to be a perpetrator around 10 August 1945 was summoned,but his brother, Hisashi, came in, stated that since circumstances were unfavorable his brother was going to cast his lot with his fellow comrades and since that time no message has been received from him. |
