Statement of Hirao (20 Oct 47). Correction of 4th series story regarding blood draining experiments. In 28 August-10 Sept 47 statement,- Hirao stated that Ishiyama performed the prelim operation, exposing the femoral artery from which the blood was to be drained.. Actually Senba performed the operation. Ishiyama instructed Seriba with Hirao assisting to perform the experimental, to test the efficiency of sea water. They were standing near dissecting table on far right side of room from hallway. Then they walked over to Hirao at the wash basin, and Ishiyama told Hirao he would assist Seriba. Said that Ishiyama already knew such results, but Ishiyama then said that the experiment would nevertheless be carried out. Seriba then came over, said he didn't want to do this type of operation. Hirao agreed. Ishiyama said ”huury up and start the operation.” Statement of Hirao contd.... Seriba then exposed the femoral artery, arid IsnMyarna and Komori, who had come over with Ishiyama, left. Senba did everything that Hirao previously, described Ishiyama as doing exactly,that he didn’t cut the artery. |

Statement of Kubo (8 Oct 47). Torisu and Semba were Kubo's immediate / superiors, usually attended operations at which Ishiyama operated on gall stones, stomach ulcers and stomach cancer, and other types. About 1330 or 1400 on the day of the operations, he was asked to help carry instruments by people pushing a cart with a sheet over it. They entered thru the front door of the Autopsy Room, went down the hall the whole length of the building. Ishiyama, Torisu, Hirao and Semba and others were there. Kubo helped carry the instruments in. The Prisoners was partially covered with a sheet, Kubo stood on a stool in back of Ishiyama, and held a lamp over his shoulder, he being on the right side. Torisu was on the loft side, Miki was on Ishiyama’s right, passing the instruments. Ishiyama made a semicircular incision around the area of the wounds, Torisu Used retractors to hid the flesh apart, also soaked up the blood with gauze. Ishiyama then separated the meat from the ribs and 2 unknown doctors helped spread the incision, Kubo then left, because he wasn’t feeling well, felt as if he would vomit, knowing these were Americans, and it was something new to have an operation in the Anatomy Dissection Room, not a proper place for an operation, he knew something was wrong. |
