INOKUCHI, KIYOSHI (KIU) 27 years, resident of Fukuoka, graduated from KIU, 1945 (September), then medical assistant and worked on alginic acid as a blood substitute under Tomoda, director of 2nd Surgical Clinic, with Kenji Inouye and Tokuhei Miyakoshi, from January 1945 until Inokudhi entered army in April 1945. He examined urine and blood to determine how long AA would stay in body, some humans, but mostly rabbits, the humans being hospital patients. AA was dissolved in a saline solution, injected into vein, and blood then removed from ear of patient and urine examined 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, and 2 weeks after. AA would (1) bring low blood pressure to normal; (2) increase blood cells; (3) to inject AA solution before and after a major operation would decrease the temperature and prevent chills, keeping blood pressure normal. From January to March 1945, coworkers on AA: Linn, Chin, Inouye, Miyakoshi, Takuhei, Tsuchiya and lehiyoshi, Chlkeo. Miyakoshi injected AA into patient during experiments. About 100 patients were injected. Inokuchi believes Ishiyama knew about these experiments but didn’t attend. He and Tomoda were not too friendly toward each other. On entering army 15 April 1945 went to Army Medical School at Sagamihara (near Tokyo), finished 15 June 1945, returned to Fukuoka 16-19 June, awaiting orders, then ordered to 2nd Fukuoka Army Hospital at Ohashi, arriving 19 June, where farther training until 10 July., when sent to Fukuoka Military Sanitary Materials Bureau, whenlnokuchi and Inouye with 2 NC0's went to Kurume for 5 days, and then Inouye and Inokuchi were ordered to go into blood substitute section. Before Inokuchi and Inouye got orders at 2nd A my Hospital, saw Tomoda, who told them they would probably help make AA, this on order of 2nd Army Hospital. After Inokuchi returned from Tokyo and while waiting orders, went to WAHq for them. Inouye went once to WA. Inokuchi was ordered by a Lt. Col. Kuroda at Kurume to make AA. On 22-23 July, Inokuchi chose Yoshii to make AA but inconvient, and they returned to the University on 12 August, where they went to the Agriculture Department, met Tsuchiya and asked him to use the Agriculture Department to produce the AA. They began making it when the war ended. Inokuchi recalls name of Komori, didn't know him, did hear Ishiyama lecture on surgery. Only knows of experimental operations through newspapers.
