Statement of Misao (1-4 Aug 1947) There was a 2nd meeting of Temporary Officials at WA in 1945 (one in May or June 1945 also) - more temporary officials had been appointed. Goto was there. Statement of Toyoda (3 Aug 1947) Shichiro Goto returned from active service in 1941, became an honorary professor, was then a WD Temporary Civilian Official, had been a medical Maj. Gen. 16 Aug. 1946 Toyoda received a telegram ordering S. Goto to appear before the vice minister of education. S. Goto said he could not go because of illness, v/ould discuss any matter by correspondence, which information Toyoda sent to Tokyo 17 Aug. About 27 August Toyoda received a letter written 24 August by Seisuke Inada which stated he should go to Goto personally and "ask him in detail about this affair and answer to this office written by order of higher officials." 28 August Toyoda made a "sick call" on Goto, at which S. Goto told him that he knew nothing more than that which he had read in the newspapers, but he seemed to want to tell Toyoda something. In late August or early September 1945 Toshimaro Morita was on his was to Tokyo with some documents to be used in the investigation related to the Potsdam Declaration, and Toyoda asked him to tell Inada what Goto had told Toyoda. Inada reported back that his report was received with a "Is that so?"
