A Captain in staff Department Code Section of WA from February to 25 June 1946, then Chief of Code Section to 25 October 45.

About 26 June 1945 Defendant overheard a conversation between a soldier of the Code Section and another that crewmembers of the American plane were cut down in the yard of the Girl’s School back of Headquarters on 20 June.

Around 16-17 August 1945, Defendant heard 2 such soldiers state that Officers and NCOs of the operations Office cut down American air crewmen at Aburayama on 15 August, that soldiers from the Code Section were put on the detail at the time. At that time Defendant was burning all cryptographic materials except that needed by Adjutant KUSUMOTO, who was custodian of cryptographic materials.

At that time there were 60 - 70 soldiers attached to the code section, but who were also assigned to a separately organized service unit, and Officers of the service unit could directly order them when necessary.

Soldiers from the Code Section were discharged the latter part of August, 9 September, and 25 September. At the 9 September separation KUSUMOTO gave instructions to ’’Discharge all the soldiers who were at the actual scene ofthe killing of the American crew members.” (15 Aug) Defendant ordered M/Sgt Tomio NAGATSITKA to investigate; there were about 10, but Defendant recalls only Tetsuro HAYASHI as present, but since he understood English he was kept until mid-October.
