Statement of Tomomori (20 Jan - 20 Mar 1947) -In late July or early Aug 1945, Tomomori mas resting in the visitors reception room on the 2nd floor, talking, to Enatsu, who told him that PCS were being brought to headquarters. Tomomori told Enatsu to show the Prisoner's uniform to the, headquarters personnel. Tomomori walked to the window, saw about 3 Prisoners being escorted by KT members along the front road, returned to his work. Shortly after, Enatsu who was looking out of the front window, said that they had brought the Prisoners to the front of. the building. Tomomori told Enatsu it wasn’t necessary to bring the Prisoners back to the front of the building. After a short time Enatsu told Tomomori that someone was beating the Prisoners Tomomori went to the window, saw an elderly woman hit a Prisoner twice with an umbrella. Tomomori .in a low .voice said "damn you" to the woman, couldn’t yell because of cracked ribs. Enatsu asked if he wanted the beating stopped, Tomomori said yes, and Enatsu went out of the room, soon returned and said the beating was dtopped and the Prisoner taken away. About 7 Aug. (?) Tomomori asked Enatsu if he wanted'to attend an execution that morning of PCS, Enatsu stating he would go along with Tomomori (Enatsu is a friend of Tomomori). About 1030 Tomomori and Enatsu left for Aburayama in a staff car. After the 3rd execution, Tomomori felt ill, walked 20 meters back to the bushes, about '40 meters from the pit, returned to the center cf the group 4-5 minutes later, suggested to Enatsu they leave, who- said he did not want'to see any more, and Tomomori said that -they would stay to some high ranking officer appeared. When executions were finished, Tomomori said "Thank you" to Wako, bowed toward the pit, started to go with Enatsu to the car, then stopped, suggested to Enatsu the observers assemble, Enatsu told Itezono who ordered the formation, whereupon, Tomomori said "Don’t fall in, just gather around me", but they were already lined up in 2 lines. Itezono ordered the men^to salute, but the order had been given, Tomomori returned the salute, ordered them at ease and spoke to them. On the way back to headquarters, in the car, Enatsu told Tomomori he had done a very good thing in observing the execution. Tomomori told Inada that on 9-10 Aug, Enatsu brought Capt. Yamaguchi of the Fukuoka Kempei Tai to WAH, who said that during the Nagasaki atomic bombing all the Prisoners escaped. Enatsu said that according to a telephone call it was planned to dispose of all the Prisoners, that the Nagasaki PW camp had requested the Fukuoka KT to notify WAH. The afternoon of 21 Aug, Fukushima called a meeting with Ito, Enatsu, Sato, Murata, and, Tomomori believes, Wako, in which it was decided to make it appear that the Prisoners executed 20 June were killed in a bombing attack, which Statement of Tomomori Cont'd.......... Tomomori disapproved, saying it was wrong and impossible. |

Oki Report (a TIS Translation) Inada asked Oki to complete his investigation report by 15 Jan, to question Goiyama, Ichiro Maeda, Adamine and Enatsu. Statement of Tokuji Enatsu in Oki Report - about 11 Jan. Enatsu heard of the 20 June execution the following day. In July Enatsu heard a commotion at the headquarters entrance, saw people beating flyers, some members of the headquarters, whereupon he ordered them to cease. About 12 Aug. Tomomori told him there was to be an execution of flyers, asked "Shall we watch?" to which he agreed and they went to Aburayama by automobile, whereat there were 6-7 flyers, but he felt sick after 3 decapitations. He saw someone practicing archery and karate, but since none died, Tomomori ordered a halt and had them decapitated. After the execution Tomomori addressed the personnel, stated that they were decapitated enemy, not PWs under international law. Enatsu could not believe that the decapitations were carried out as the result of a death sentence passed by a military commission or court martial. |
