Statement of Aihara (604 - 2 July). Aihara stated he was with the
Western Army 20 May 1944 to 9 September 1945; that he was a Captain and his superior officer was Yakamaru. In his first statement he related he
took nine (9) flier to Hiroshima; however, in the second statement, being
more truthful, he relates he went with Sato to witness an operation on a
flier at Kyushu Hospital. lt that time there were seven or eight Japanese
in the operating room, including Komori and Ishiyama. This operation took place in lat May or early June. The PW brought into the operating room
was evidently unconscious; the experiment was an operation on the back of the head of the patient. Aihara relates he left before the operation was
completed, but that h heard that the patient died.

Statement of Ishiyama (604 - not in file). Ishiyama stated to be a Captain and was a witness of the 2nd experiment.

Statement of Sato (604 - 2 July). Sato states taht he was in charge of the receipt and disposition of all POWs of the Western Army and he in turn issued orders to Aihara regarding them. He further states that the story that 9 POWs were taken to Hiroshima by Aihara, according to official report, is a lie. Aihara went with Sato to the  third operation, which was a blood brain tumor experiment, in which the patient died, according to Sato, of loss of blood.
