AIHARA, Kajuro

Statemen of Aihara (11 Oct. 1947) (KIU)

Aihara now states that in addition to sttending the operation previously described he attended a 2nd series, which he later learned was a lung operation. Before the Prisoners were taken out of the detention barracks, shortly after noon, Sato said "Come to the University," drew Aihara a sketch as to how to get there.

Aihara arrived late, one operation had been completed, they had just about finished an operation on a 2nd Prisoner. Someone said the 2nd was a lung operation. There was a long incision in the chest. Aihara watched about 5 minutes, stayed in the autopsy room about 20-30 minutes, smoked a cigarette, stood by the window, Sato, Yakumaru were present. Yakumaru then suggested to Aihara they go home, and the two did so, Sato staying.

Aihara saw the 2 bodies of the American Prisoners who had been sitting in the back of a truck in front of the dentention barracks just before being taken to the University. One Prisoner was lying on the table partially covered, having been operated on. Aihara heard later both Prisoners died.
