Statement of Shinno (21 July 1947) Matake was transferred from Kaikosha Hospital to Oita Army Hospital in May or June 1945, returned in late May or early June, was served at a dinner in late May or early June 1945 in which there was rice, vegetables, fish, pickles and sake, no meat. Presents Komori, Matake, Kanehisa, Kishi, Ito, Oda, Nakamura, Shinno. Also the following nurses were present: Shiokawa, Nakae, Takechi, Nishimura, OOba, Tatera, Tanaka, Ikeda, Tone, Takahashi. Cooks present: Tamura, Ogata; Servant: Koiso. Office girls: Tsuruhara, Takata, Hashigami. These may have been present: Sgt. Maj. Asamizu, Miyamoto, Momota, Sasaki, Kamada. Either Miyamoto or Kanehisa gave a welcoming speach to Matake, who in reply expressed that he was happy to be there. During the meal Matake complained about the food shortage in Oita-ken. Before 0800 on 18 July 1947 Matake told Shinno that he had signed a statement to LS that he had eaten human liver, that he signed it because he wanted to go home, that he wanted to find out when he had returned to Fukuoka from Oita. Shinno spoke with Shiokawa at LS, who said that she didn’t know why she was being questioned at LS, later told him that she was being questioned about eating human liver. Shinno did not eat human liver. |
