Statement of Tashiro (Jiro) -(9-24 Oct 47). On a May evening, the First Surgery Clinic doctors had a sake party, which included Ishiyama, Torisu, Mori, Hirao, possibly Morimoto as the ranking doctors, and Tashiro, Dogawa, Hirao, Semba and possibly Kubo and Tomoki Tashiro, as the younger doctors, at the Doctors’ Mess Hall at the University. Tashiro said to Nogawa, "what is this about operations?" he replied, . "there are going to be rare and unusal operations performed." Tashiro thought they were to be experimental, was told before the operations that they were to be on pilots or Prisoners, believes it was on this occasion. Several days after the party someone in First Surgery (maybe Kubo) told Tashiro there was to be an operation on a Prisoner that, day. Tashiro went, met Nogawa down the hall, who told him; he couldn't come in, so he became angry, left, went to the back of the Autopsy Section, where he saw Nogawa, Kubo, Hirao, Torisu, Tomoki Tashiro and possibly 1 or 2 other, talking in the yard. Believes that Ishiyama, Torisu, Hirao, Senba, Nogawa, Komori and Sato were present at both, is not sure, as to the others as. to which operation, Nogawa was at both operations.

Statement of Tashiro. Tomoki (29 Sept-1 Oct 47). Nobuyoshi Nogawa and Tashiro were classmates. Nogawa is now a doctor at First Surgical says he was at any experimental operations, but he told Tashiro that he was at an operation in which a Prisoners, with a wound in his shoulder had his lung, or part of his lung, removed. Tashiro also attended an operation on a Prisoner where the lung was.: removed and where the Prisoner had a wounded shoulder. The first one he attended, but despite the fact that he,was a good friend of Nogawa, he doesn't remember his being there. Nogawa said that he had asministered ether to this Prisoner. There was a hood over the head of the Prisoner. |

Statement of Senba (31 Oct-8 Nov 47). At a party given for someone in the Doctors Mess Hall, at First Surgery, abound 10 Lay, Ishiyama came in made a farewell speech, and everyone then began eating and drinking. About 1/2 later, Ishiyama leaned forward and said, "Komori is going to bring several Prisoners to the University and I am thinking of performing experimental operations on them." While he said this to the higher ranking officers near him, it carried so that everyone present could hear it, no one was drunk at the time, everyone became quiet for a minute or so. Ishiyama seemed very serious, but Senba thought him joking, everyone appeared dumbfounded at first, then seemed to pass it off as a joke. Everyone got drunk, and the party broke up about 2130. Present at the party were; Hirao, Mori, Tomoki Tashiro, Jiro Tashiro and Nogawa. |
