Reports on the defense counsel plan (from four of the defendants: Hiranuma, Kaya, Shigemitsu, and Umezu) to request the tribunal allow "the world be the judge" of the Japanese accused war criminals with a panel deciding their fate that "would include Pope Pius XII, Mohandas K. Gandhi, and H. G. Wells." Also reports that the prosecution was "ready to lay the documentary groundwork for tracing Japan's armed attempt to colonize rich areas of the far east" as well as the fact that the "defendants will not be tried individually, but as alleged collaborators in a world conspiracy."
