Statement of Miki (15 July 1947)

Miki changes personal history dates of first statement. Was enrolled in KIU Nurses School from April 1942 to 1946. Miki further states that there were no threats or promises made her.

Miki states that nurse Takayama did not go with them; that when she made statement she was not sure. Further, where Miki stated that Suyama, Manabe, and herself wanted to leave the room, they actually had no chance to talk about it. They looked at each other as if to say, "Let's get out of here."

Miki attended two operations in which instance there was but one Prisoner. While they were in the dissecting room, someone said, "Those are American Prisoners." The Prisoners were large, light skinned, light hair, looked like American that she has seen since.

The operating lamp that was used had a handle about 1 meter long by which it was held. The shade was a silver color on the inside and was about 8-10 inches across. A 100 watt bulb was used. One of the persons in the room had to hold the lamp— it was used each time. Such a lamp was used alone in the first Surgery Operating Room. It was convenient when the operation was deep; it could be moved easily. There was sufficient light during the operations in the 'anatomy room. Miki believes that there was sufficient light.

Miki does not believe that there were any bulbs in the sockets in the ceiling. When the investigator took Miki out to the University, the ceiling had been removed.

Yayama was a nurse in Ishiyama surgery who worked under Miki. When Ishiyama made his rounds, she went along, passed instruments sometimes during operations in Ishiyama Surgery.

Miki saw 4 Prisoners alltogether, one with his head removed.
