S/D (2 Dec 1947) 51; lived in United States from*14 until*21, attended Stanford one year. While living in Kitagawachi-mura in late July 1945, a policeman asked Defendant to interpret for a captured American flyer; was taken to the police residence where there were present a KT corporal, HAYASHI, police chief of Kurogi, and 3 - 4 flyers, and a flyer with a bloody bandage on his right ankle which he said he hurt when landing. He said his name was STEARNS, and Defendant then identifies the photo. STEARNS walked without assistance, did not limp, when taken away by the Kempti Tai. About a week later Defendant was taken to the Primary School where members of the Kempei Tai, including Sgt. AKASHI, and of the Keibi Tai were present.. The Prisoner waid he was S/Sgt THORNTON, but Defendant cannot identify photo. About two weeks after the plane crash, Defendant was again called by AKASHI to interrogate APPLEBY, who said the pilot of the ship was HEWITT. Defendant Identifies photo.
