Statement of Sada (7 June 47) Later (after 6 May 1945) 2 doctors (unknown) who visited Sada from the Ishiyama Surgery Bldg., said that Ishiyama had been receiving letters regarding PW operations that were not good. In Nov. 1945 at a party of former and present personnel of the Ishiyama Surgery Bldg., Sada, in front of all, suggested that Ishiyama resign as a vice president of prefectual doctors association and as a University Professor. He replied, "I know it. I know it, but it a too late now." In April 1946 Sada went to Ishiyama Surgery Bldg, to visit Ishiyama who said "Since every doctor in Fukuoka is talking dirty about me, what should I do?" Sada suggested he resign because of the rumors; Ishiyama asked if he had any proof. Sada then said all the students were talking about it, suggested Ishiyama would be hanged. About a week before Ishiyama was arrested, Sada was at a party where Ishiyama was present, which included Hirao, Torisu, Tsutsui.

Statement of Yoshimura (16-28 June 1947) At the May meeting of the assembly of Temprorary Civilian offcials of the War Department at WAHq, Ishiyama told about using sea water as a blood substitute successfully when patient has lost a great deal of blood. He said he had used sea water in research when he had performed lung operations on PWs during which the Prisoners lost a great deal of blood. A day or so after May 1945 meeting of civilian officials, Yoshimura heard Maekawa and Horiuchl discussing what Ishiyama had said, talked more of sea water research than operations. |

Statement of Jinnaka (420, 9 June 1947) At the May meeting of Fukuoka Surgeons Assembly Tomoda lectured on use of AA as a blood substitute. At this time Ishiyama was also studying blood substitutes, interested in sea water. After receipt of anonymous letter (from "Shibata", a University Student) Jinnaka then questioned Ishiyama directly, who said that he had performed an operation on a Prisoner who had been wounded in the shoulder and who had died in the anatomy research laboratory. Ishiyama became an army adviser to the army in 1944, advised army doctors, gave lectures, performed operations. KIU doctors who were army advisors: Ishiyama - surgery; Yoshisada Nakajima - radiology; Tando Masao - medicine; Jinnaka - orthopedies; Shichiro Goto - general surgery. In June 1944 Ishiyama was ordered by Horiuchi to do research in first aid treatment; at the December 1944 meeting he asked and was permitted to do research in epilepsy. Probably was ordered to do research in sea water as a blood substitute in June 1944, this must have been related to his research in first aid. |

This book documents the legal proceedings of the December 1949 Khabarovsk trial in which twelve members of the Japanese Army's covert biological warfare Unit 731 were prosecuted for their war crimes.
