Statement of Yokoyama (18 Aug- Aug 47). In May 1945, Yokoyama was put in direct command of the loth Army Group and in June, Hq was moved to Yamae, while WA Area Hq remained in Fukuoka under Yokoyama's command, under Lt. Gen. Isa, Yokoyama's deputy, Isa didn't issue any order of importance before discussing it with Yokoyama. In Yokoyama's absence, Lt. Gen, Isa was in command of WA Hq at Fukuoka, Lt. Gen. Inada in command of 16th Army at Yamae. When Yokoyama became CO of 16th Army Group, concentrated on Kyushu invasion with his C/S, didn’t have much time to supervise WA Hq, turning it over to Isa to supervise. In May 1945, Anami, the War Minister came to WA Hq, at which time Yokoyama told him he was going to Yamae to take command of the 16th, leaving Isa to act in command of WA Hq for Yokoyama, that if the Allied Forces landed in South Kyushu he thought it best to transfer the 16th still farther South. In late June the General Staff told Yokoyama, Kyushu might be invaded, in August. Because of this during July, Yokoyama made but one trip to WA Hq on which vis it Isa reported, to Yokoyama about the Allied bombings, draftings of soldiers, and food, said nothing of plane crashes or captured airmen. From 16 Aug to 12 Oct, Yokoyama was busy with duties brought about by the surrender, and only once in August, did Yokoyama go to WA Hq, to receive a report from Isa,

Statementoof Oki (9-13 Nov 47). Inada told Oki not to report that Sato said Yokoyama had given permission for the executions, since it was not true. He also told him to leave out any reference to Lt. Gen. Isa, who was Acting CG at Fukuoka when Yokoyama moved to Yamae. The only references to Isa were that Yokoyama stated that Isa was Acting CG at Fukuoka when he moved to Yamae, and that Ito said that Isa was present in Yokoyama's room when Ito reported to Yokoyama that the flyers had been reported killed in the 19 June airraid, although they were executed. |

Statement of Yamanaka (18-27 Sept 46). In about April 1945, Yokoyama appointed Kazuo Isa, as Acting CO, of the WA Hq and delegated limited powers to him. Isa, because of illness, was often absent. So Yamanaka is not certainthat he would have known of the 20 June executions. |
