Statement of Inouye (420, 9 June 1947)

30, a medical assistant at 2nd Surgery Department, KIU, graduate of KIU Medical College in 1944, worked from June 1944 at 2nd Surgery to 29 April 1945, went in army, discharged 17-18 August 1945. At 2nd Surgery, under Tomoda, ehief, at beginning of 1945 began working on a blood substitute, taught how to make AA from Tsuchiya, and went back and forth to Agriculture Department to work with him. Tomoda directed this research of Linn, Miyakoshi, Inokuchi and Inouye.

First worked on animals, then, instead of injecting NaCl (Sodium Chloride) in human, injected AA, which was successful. Inouye believes Tomoda received a subsidy from the government for this work— this Tomoda's main experiment— thinks money came through Ministry of Education.

Inouye in June was working at 2nd Army Hospital at Fukuoka, week later transferred to branch hospital at Tsuetate-shi, worked there a month, ordered back to 2nd Army Hospital, called in by Lt. Col. head of hospital - ordered to see Maj. Kubo, who told him to see Tomoda, who gave him details of making AA - this in late June or early July. The army didn’t manufacture AA since war ended.

Inouye was a P.O., has been at WA medical officers headquarters once for about an hour to meet Kubo, but not at WAH. Does not know Komori. Kubo, at WA Medical Headquarters told Inouye that he might be called back to KIU to make blood substitute, Kubo being a member of the medical staff at WA Medical Headquarters.

Inouye worked with Tsuchiya, since he a specialist in sea weed at Agriculture Department, had equipment. After AA completed, Inouye brought it to 2nd Surgery.

Inouye heard experimental operations were performed on American PWs just before Ishiyama was arrested.

Knows nothing more of KIU experimental operations on flyers, he states.

After reporting to Kubo, went to see Tomoda with Inokuchi, and the two then stayed at 2nd Army Hospital for about 2 weeks, transferred to Fukuoka Military Sanitation Material Department at Kurume about beginning of July, receiving 7-8 assistants under command of Lt. Col. Kuroda, although Inouye believes Tomoda had some connexion with it. A month having passed, decided to go back to KIU, where Tomoda came to see them, but about week later surrender.
